Senate Takes Step Towards Iran War
“Cheney’s fondest pipe dream” close to reality
I notice our local lefty blogosphere is quick to jump on our state’s GOP Congresscritters when votes are cast that do not fall in line with the ideals held by the bloggers.
For instance, Rochester Turning and its recent SCHIP coverage, though I do not agree, and Randy Kuhl’s support for the war.
Too bad they do not hold their Dem Senate representatives to the same standards when it comes to something like, say, waging war on Iran:
By a vote of 76-22, the Senate passed the Lieberman-Kyl amendment, which threatens to “combat, contain and [stop]” Iran via “military instruments.” Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) called the amendment “Cheney’s fondest pipe dream” and said it could “read as a backdoor method of gaining Congressional validation for military action.”
How did the esteemed Senators from New York, including Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, vote on the matter? Against it right?
Both Clinton and Charles Schumer voted in favor of the amendment.

We have Hillary a pretty tough time in the 2006 primary as you may recall.
You might want to drop the whole “I’m so nonpartisan routine”, by the way.
Does she get a free pass now that she’s in office?
We never claimed to be non-partisan, I am unapologetically Republican and the Swede is true blue (Dem). What we do claim to be are logical centrists who want our leaders to actually do what makes sense for the country rather than towing the party line, and we want the so-called “alternative” media to demand the betterment of both parties, rather than just rail on the party they don’t like.
Our Democratic Senators essentially took part in paving the way for war against Iran and not a whisper from the “progressives,” if Jim Walsh or Randy Kuhl had cast this vote RT would’ve had three posts about it already.
Republicans aren’t right about everything and Democrats aren’t right about everything, there is a middle ground to be found and ALL our politicians should be held accountable for their decisions, that is the point here at the WBP.
What good is it to harp on the GOP about international military conflicts when the Dems simply roll over in situations like this?
And anyone who looks at the SCHIP battle and doesn’t realize it is simply a political football, as Rotten so appropriately called it, rather than effective legislation has not done a thorough analysis of the program.
I am going to have to back up the Colonel on this one, we would have done this same post if the Senators in question were Republicans.
We’re really mad at Hillary, don’t get me wrong. But there are only so many hours in a day and we’re going to focus more on candidates facing election soon, for them most part.
If we had infinite resources, we would be blasting Hillary for this. We don’t.
I wish people would realize that our blog is run by a few people with full-time jobs (yours is probably the same). We can’t hit every single issue that our readers would like.
And with SCHIP this week plus the county budget stuff plus Iraq still raging, we don’t have the bandwidth to write about every stupid Hillary does.
And I just don’t see how we can be criticized for giving shelter to Dems. We’ve gone after Hillary, Schumer, even Louise on more than one occasion. How many other progressive blogs give elected Democrats that hard of a time? Not many.
And you’re wrong about SCHIP, IHMO. It’s a successful program and not that expensive.
I did not mean to imply that you were sheltering Dems; I was simply puzzled by the lack of any mention, especially given your adamant opposition to the Iraq War, of steps taken by own elected New York representatives towards another war.
I do understand though, especially given Maggie’s circus act yesterday, that the majority of your focus would be on other topics.
I urge to check out my earlier post, “The Patchwork of SCHIP,” if you think the program isn’t too expensive and if you believe that a cigarette tax is a realistic way to fund the expansion
Also, we are putting together some additional numbers on SCHIP and coverage for the uninsured that will be posted later this evening that calls into question the program’s effectiveness.
We are honored that you believed we were engaging in a “I’m so non-partisan routine.” We take that as a compliment to the true objectivity of the WBP content.
Keep your swipes to yourself WBP. Seriously.
I mean where is your “local stores selling beef that tested positive for Ecoli”? as reported in today’s D&C.
Or are you guys simply partisan industry hacks with loyalty to the meat industry or those specific stores. Of course not.
Things happen for a reason. So we didn’t post about Hillary and Schumer’s vote yesterday (when it happened). Neither did you. You guys did it today. What were we doing instead? Posting about Maggie’s pending budget circus. Exile discussed infinite resources. Yep sounds about right and likely applies to both of our blogs.
I heard about the amendment this morning and was disappointed – very disappointed in both my Senators. I planned to post about it later tonight.
