Ambulance Chasers
While I was recovering from a coma induced by copious amounts of egg nog and Jim Beam there was news being made by those who had begrudingly returned to the work-a-day world.
I posted last month on the disagreement between Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy and City Council regarding the awarding of the contract for City ambulance service.
The Council initially decided on Rural Metro but a veto by Duffy, who cast his support behind Monroe Ambulance, sent the decision back to the Council.
Duffy’s veto was overridden today in a unanimous vote by the Council ultimately deciding that Rural Metro would be the choice for Rochester ambulance service, valued at roughly $15 million per year, for at least the next two years.
Both Duffy and Monroe Ambulance President Eileen Coyle have stated that the bid process was actually won by Monroe Ambulance in June of ‘07 but the Council allowed Rural Metro to alter its bid. Coyle and the company’s attorney have iterated on multiple occasions that Monroe Ambulance will take the City to court over this matter.

What was wrong with this city council? You throw away a local companyw with a good record for an out of town company? Allow it to change its bid after it was closed? What is wrong with this picture? Rural/Metro settled with the Justice Department last June for Medicaid fraud. It treats its employees horribly. You should not reward such a company. I hope Monroe Ambulance is successful in its legal action.
