Playing catch-up in the 26th
The WBPress has been quiet of late as we prepare for a change over to our own .com and as I welcomed my new son to the world (more on that later).
Catching up on some things we missed in the NYS 26th Congressional district race:
* Last month I posted an interview with Livingston County GOP chairman Lowell Conrad following his selection of Buffalo businessman Chris Lee as his preferred candidate. A possible showdown was looming at that time as other challengers hinted at a primary run. David Bellavia, one of the prospective GOP challengers, may soon bow out of the race according to recent GOP rumblings on the Rothenburg Political Report.
However, a primary is still a possibility given the as-of-yet unaltered plans of businessman Rick Lewis. Lewis was the choice in the 26th for Western NY Conservative party leaders and has stated that he is “not afraid” of challenging Lee.
* Jon Powers, Dem candidate for the 26th CD seat, picked up the endorsement of the Working Families Party.
Powers also attended Memorial Day events in the district including those held in Greece. Some viewed Powers presence as fitting and appropriate, others not so much. However you view it Powers was the only candidate campaigning at the parade.
* Another Dem has entered the race, this time it is Erie County Legislator Kathy Konst of Lancaster. Konst has pledged $100,000 of her own funds for the race and is expected to make a formal announcement this week.
