Morning after in the Genesee Valley
A thought from a friend of mine as we discussed the prospects last night of waking up the morning after the elections:
“The sun will still rise tomorrow, it may be more expensive to look at and you won’t be able to defend it, but it will still come up.”
On that note the run down of who represents you now in the Genesee Valley of Upstate NY:
Congressional 26 – Chris Lee (R) defeated Alice Kryzan (D) by a wide margin, Lee won this one simply by means of overwhelming enrollment advantage. Jon Powers picked up a considerable amount of votes but was not the cause of Kryzan’s loss.
State Senate 59 – 36 year incumbent Dale Volker (R) holds onto this seat by a default against Kathy Konst (D). I have said it before, Volker is the poster child for term limits, unfortunately the Dems fielded a weak candidate that did not present a viable alternative. Volker seemed to be in trouble in the GOP primary, here’s hoping next time around Volker either retires or is faced with an opponent who can match his financial mettle. With the Senate majority swinging to the Dems I’m thinking we may see Volker retire before another run at the seat.
Assembly 147 – Dan Burling (R) held off Phil Jones (D) in what seemed to be more of a token challenge. Burling did little campaigning and Jones did even less.
Perhaps the most interesting note from the Livingston County election totals was all the GOP wins in the face of the presidential race which was strikingly close, McCain only garnered 1500 more votes than Obama’s strong showing in the red region.
Full Livingston County election results can be found here, more to come at the WBP.
